What Is Modawake?

Modawake is a generic version of modafinil made by HAB Pharma.

It comes in the standard 200 mg dose and is nearly identical in almost every way to other brands like Provigil® or other generics like Modalert.

The main differences between all of these medications are the price and the fillers used during the manufacturing process.

What Is R-Modawake?

R-Modawake is a generic version of armodafinil (Nuvigil®). It’s virtually same as Modawake but only contains pure R-modafinil.

R-modafinil is considered an enantiomer of the modafinil compound. An enantiomer is what we use to describe either the left-hand version of a chemical or the right-hand version.

This is a common concept in chemistry. We may have one compound, in this case, modafinil, but each compound can be either right-handed or left-handed, which gives them slight differences in how they interact with the bodies receptors, and how we metabolize them.

In modafinil, we have both S-modafinil, and R-modafinil. They’re virtually identical — but mirror opposites.

Studies have shown that the R-enantiomer has a slightly more potent effect on the dopamine transport receptors (DAT) than the S-enantiomer.

As a result, Cephalon Inc, the manufacturer of the brand name versions of these medications, produced a new product to leverage this. It was an enantiopure compound (Nuvigil®) containing only the R-modafinil version.

To no surprise, the resulting product was found to be slightly more stimulating than regular modafinil and lasted slightly longer as well. The dose given to provide the same level of stimulation of 200 mg of modafinil was 150 mg.

This is now considered a standard dose for armodafinil products produced by Cephalon Inc in addition to generic versions like R-Modawake.

Modawake & R-Modawake vs. Other Generic Modafinil

1. Company Reputation

Overall, they appear to have a good reputation in the industry. They’re ISO certified and have worked with many different companies from numerous industries to manufacture high-quality pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products for the marketplace.

As a fairly small company (as far as pharmaceutical companies go), they produce an impressively wide range of products.

2. User Experiences

Modawake has been described by users on Reddit as being “buzzy.” It can make users feel slightly high and has a tendency for causing headaches.

Most generic modafinil will cost between $0.70 and $1.60 per tablet depending on the order size.

Many websites, such as FreeModafinil or BuyModa, offer discounts if the order is paid for with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Dash. Other discounts are given for returning customers (achieved by entering the last order ID during checkout). This brings the cost to between $0.70 and $2.00 per dose for most modafinil products.

R-modafinil is usually slightly higher, between $1.00 and $3.00 per tablet.

4. Availability

Compared to HAB Pharmaceuticals other modafinil generics, it’s much more difficult to find good quality Modawake and R-Modawake.

This is likely due to the increased report of side effects that stem from these medications compared to HAB Pharmaceuticals’ other products. It also may be due to the attractive package design that resembles antismoking ads on cigarette packs.

HAB Pharma’s other products, Modvigil and Artvigil are significantly more popular, which is likely the reason why most resellers only offer these products from HAB.

Alternatives to Modawake

There are some excellent alternatives to Modawake that are much easier to find and are more reliable regarding the quality.

Our favorite is Modalert by Sun Pharmaceuticals. This is slightly more expensive (by a few cents), but also offers a slightly stronger effect.
